Making TRE Practice Easier

What to wear, when to schedule your session, and tips to prepare and make the most of your practice.

Dress to forget.
Especially in group sessions, I recommend wearing black, baggy clothes, with a tight layer underneath (i.e. fitted tank + baggy tshirt + sweats). This avoids issues with bending/stretching, and hopefully creates peace of mind in the body image department.
In short: dress however allows you not to think about what you're wearing.
Strategize when scheduling your session.
To get real about it: for example, if you tend to have more digestive activity at certain times of day, consider avoiding those times. You don't want to be worrying about bodily noises coming out to embarrass you. In the same vein, the goal is to minimize any other potential sources of self-consciousness.
Don't be afraid to "prep" before a session.
There are a number of tools to make it easier to relax fully and make the most of your session:
- pre-or post-session epsom salt bath (as hot as is still comfortable, unless you have dry skin/eczema)
- hot cup of tea (before, after, and/or even during practice)
- some time quietly breathing
- comforting music (note, does not necessarily have to be quiet or calm music -- just something that feels familiar and comforting to you)
- or even, when I first started... I found the use of 1:1 CBD:THC medical cannabis to be a miracle in allowing my muscles to relax enough for the shake to happen.
Medical Cannabis.
If you are prescribed medical cannabis and/or already use it (I don't want to advocate commencing cannabis use just for this), I do highly recommend its application here. From personal experience, it can open the introspective relaxation 'door' in your mind, especially if you're new to the practice and have trouble with armoring/perpetually high muscle tone.
For strain selection, try to choose something you know exerts a moderate to heavy body effect - anything known to aid muscle spasms, and not known for producing anxiety (strains labeled 'sativa'). Any Indica strain should be a sure shot.
If you need specific strain or dosing recommendations, feel free to contact me; however, I am not a professional, and any advice would be of an experienced, but peer-to-peer nature.
